Wavecast II: Justin Petertil of Love Raid Recorded April 23rd, 2009
Love Raid sounds like a band about to blow up in Montreal with their tight indie-pop sound that is not too poppy, and not too dreary. The music rests eloquently in the heart of any listener, not being too anxious or urgent to cause any sensory overload. Don't get that quote wrong though, as they allow you to swing back and forth between the memories that might rest in the nooks of your brain. They can easily be compared to Indie/Rock bands like Arcade Fire, Stars, but also (in songs like Bike Ride and Spring Shit) to the bubble that's bursting with soft spoken genuine Pop bands, Feist and Broken Social Scene. Hopefully they stay here in Chicago, as all of the aforementioned bands reside in Canada, because Love Raid is offering some of the most authentic music this side of the U.S/Canada border.
Love Raid formed during the middle of 2008 and made forays to Chicago music venues under various assumed names until finally emerging in early 2009.
Justin Petertil (guitar, piano, vocals) and Seth Vanek (drum set, glockenspiel, vocals) have been collaborating on musical projects for over 10 years and are joined by longtime friend and recordist Gerard Barreto (bass guitar, vocals) for this venture. OFFICE frontman Scott Masson also occasionally appears to add wonderful extra flavors.
Love Raid is based in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago IL and is embarking on a steady schedule of performance and recording in early 2009.
