Social.FM: "Unfortunately No Longer In Business" Despite a recent reinvention and funding infusion, P2P-based radio service Social.FM is now shutting its doors. "The company is unfortunately no longer in business and therefore cannot continue its service to you," a now-bleak social.FM page states. The innovative service was perhaps better known as Mercora, a company that attempted to piggyback on the wild success of P2P distribution. The name was shifted in September of last year, part of a broader update that included a highly-visual presentation and social networking components. Those efforts appeared fruitless, though the company has not offered specific reasons for the closure. Since its inception, Mercora has received criticism from major labels for skirting proper licensing deals, though company chief Srivats Sampath continually pointed to a DMCA-compliant offering.
