Snowsera's *Fictions*, a review Snowsera's sophomore release Fictions arrives as a dainty gift in the form of an electronic bundle released via their Myspace that, once opened, is an aural jubilee that bandmates Bill Artega, Nate Christenson, Ian Erard and Jeff Wagner, after much gnashing of teeth and grinding away, ought to be quite proud with. It's like an awkward teen in a way, gangly and grotesque, who asks his mother will it get any better and to this, Mother says: "*Que sera*—beauty is fiction." Or such would be the happy theme of some television spectacle that Snowsera mocks in a poignant manner that can't help but be heeded. "24" especially hits hard from a social commentary point of view in the same way that biting into an apple and finding half a newt does. "Tabloids leading you to believe" alludes to the climate we are in while the steady pulsing of Wagner's drumwork and Artega's vocals ring of some tight-fisted advocate agitating for change of some kind, preferably in the near future. It's this short of ambivalence that drives Snowsera lyrically to a point where the words are comfortably evocative, but could definitely be more stirring. For a band only a year-and-a-half out, their work up to this point shows much promise. Already hometown heroes in parts south of Chicago (i.e., Champaign-Urbana). Snowsera is bringing their sound to the city with a free show at Schuba's on August 26th and a later event scheduled for September 6th at the Metro with other locals like State and Madison.
